Movement for Balance: #BEACTIVE DAY 2026 Campaign Launched at RSU

On 16 July, the #BEACTIVE DAY 2026 campaign in Latvia was officially launched with a warm-up event at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). This year, the campaign focuses on mental health and wellbeing, highlighting the important role regular physical activity can play in supporting everyday wellbeing.

The event brought together representatives from the sports, health, education and public sectors to discuss how to encourage a more physically active society and help more people find a form of movement that suits them.

Movement Supports More Than Just Physical Health

This year’s #BEACTIVE DAY campaign places particular emphasis on the connection between physical activity and mental wellbeing. Movement can be a simple and accessible way to reduce everyday stress, improve mood and restore energy.

During the event, Aleksandrs Samoilovs, Director of the Sports Department at the Ministry of Education and Science, highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between physical and mental demands and reminded participants that everyone can find a sport or form of physical activity that works for them.

An important part of this year’s campaign is also the involvement of Rīga Stradiņš University, which has joined #BEACTIVE DAY as a partner in Latvia. The partnership aims to strengthen an evidence-based approach to promoting physical activity and raise awareness of the impact movement can have on both physical and mental health.

RSU Vice-Rector for Studies Prof. Dr. med. Haralds Plaudis stressed that regular physical activity supports not only physical health, but also mental resilience and overall wellbeing. Through its participation in the campaign, RSU aims to encourage people to see movement not as a temporary activity, but as an everyday habit and a long-term investment in health.

#BEACTIVE DAY Is More Than One Day in the Calendar

The event also introduced this year’s #BEACTIVE DAY plans and explored opportunities to involve municipalities, sports organisations, educational institutions and other partners more widely across Latvia.

Gints Kuzņecovs, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Health and Fitness Association, emphasised that #BEACTIVE DAY should not be seen as just a single annual event. Its broader goal is to build a movement that inspires people to choose a more active and healthier lifestyle throughout the year.

Join the Movement on 23 September

#BEACTIVE DAY is a Europe-wide initiative that brings together fitness clubs, educational institutions, companies and other organisations with one shared goal — to inspire people to move more.

On 23 September and throughout the European Week of Sport, a wide range of free sports and physical activity events will take place across Latvia, giving people the opportunity to try different activities and discover what kind of movement suits them best.

Regardless of age, experience or fitness level, the most important thing is simply to start.

Stay active, feel better – together with others!
